South of England Masters 2010
The O 55’s saw Mark Cowley taking all out, only Paul Reader getting a single game.
Newcomer John Petruschke removed both Simon Evendon and David Cooper, whilst Mick Broomhall’s
outside chance of an England cap evaporated with a 1-3 loss to Phil Collins.
Stuart Hardy, still on one leg after his operation, was too good for his half but
found Cowley far too severe in the Final despite a close first game.
Mark wins English Open March 2010
The O55’s was a Cowley affair (and a rather amusing one as well). The No 1 seed in the middle of a rally, ran off court, managed to fill the ‘URN’ outside, went back on as green as the cricket wickets in April and found the Ref had awarded the game against him. He still won 3/1 and easily won the event, beating Stuart Hardy in the Final.
Mark Cowley won The Amateur Squash Championship for the Jesters Trophy held at the RAC Club in Pall Mall SW1.
Beating Stuart Hardy [England No 3] in the final winning 3-1.
This is now his seventh Trophy win, and will now look to the British Closed National Championship
which commences on Thursday 11th February 2010 in Manchester.
The
Middlesex Closed Squash Tournament 2010 took place at Finchley Manor 15th to 17th January,
Mark entered the over 45 and over 55 men’s tournaments winning both.

East of England Masters Tournament 2009 - O55's winner Mark Cowley
In the 55's Peter Smith beat Mick Broomhall 10/8 in the 5th, a very sporting
game. Unfortunately Peter met our new champion, Mark Cowley next round. At the
bottom end Stuart Hardy, fresh from from Tel Aviv with 1 hours sleep and a
tummy bug, struggled initially with his early rounds, beating Brian Hawkes who
had knocked out Paul Reader, and then gaining a very good victory over Ian
Holmes, who doesnt like playing the left hander - he has never beaten him. Phil
Collins cruised through until he met Cowley. The Final was a Cowley
masterclass, and his court speed & pace was just too good on the day.

British Open - Manchester 2009 - O55's winner Mark Cowley
The 55's also had a massive draw with three 50 International newcomers, Peter
Alexander, Mark Cowley and Stuart Hardy and the European Masters Champion from
Belgium/South Africa, Nathan Marks. The first quarter saw Marks' retrieving
powers push him into a 3/0 victory although Hardy led 6/1 in the second.
Elsewhere, Phil Collins beat John Duckworth 9/5 3/9 9/6 4/9 9/2 and Ian Holmes
unexpectedly seeded 9/16 instead of 5/8 (as he should have been) beat Phil
Crane 9/0 10/8 9/6. Ian Holmes ruined Phil Collins tournament 9/0 10/8 9/6 but
then fell to Dave Lumsden, soon to be 60, 9/1 9/4 9/7. Lurking at the bottom
was Mark Cowley and he went past Ronnie Bell 9/2 9/3 7/9 9/5 and then Lumsden
9/3 1/9 9/1 9/3.
All of you will know Bloodgate (which, by the way has been prevalent in top
class Rugby for 10 years plus and why Deano has copped all the flak no one can
yet work out, much much more to follow) well, this was our Squash equivalent!
Peter Alexander has beaten Cowley the vast majority of times they have gone on
court but the latters determination means it is best to have him in your team
and not the opposition. As it was, in this most important match, Mark played
very well, hardly making a mistake and eventually his will to win prevailed and
a prestigious title to hold. (MC was seen smiling afterwards).
